Abstract

Purpose: This study explored the experiences among Korean American staff members working at Korean nursing homes in the Greater Chicago area.

Method: Three staff members from four Korean nursing homes participated in this study. Data were collected from face-to-face, semi-structured in-depth interview. Thematic analysis was applied for data analysis.

Results: Korean American staff members¡¯ working experiences consisted of three patterns. These included ambivalence, become one family,¡¯ and feeling of exhaustion. Korean American elders¡¯ adaptation and adjustment processes and contexture factors were presented additionally.

Conclusion: Nurse professionals need to specify their roles in nursing homes and to increase public awareness about nursing care in nursing homes.
